If your floor is in a busy room like the kitchen
Porcelain would be the best in this room because it's a heavier, denser tile that can also be used outside. It's made up of a nonporous clay, together with sand and glass, and is fired at higher temperatures, making it ultra strong. A grading system for tiles
Developed by the Porcelain and Enamel Institute, each tile type is rated for its ability to withstand wear. The grade appears on the box label, but you should also speak to the professionals in our tile shop to ensure you're getting the right one. The ratings are as follows: Class 1 is an indoor wall tile. Class 2 is for interior, lightly trafficked floors, such as in the bedroom. Class 3 and Class 4 are best for residential use because they can be used on moderate to heavily trafficked floors and light commercial use. Class 3 can also be used on countertops, walls, and tub/shower surrounds. Class V is for heavy commercial use.
Also, check water absorption levels, especially if you plan to install tiles in high-moisture areas like the kitchen bath or outside on the deck, patio, and pool floor, as well as tractions (Coefficient of Friction of COF).
